Montreal, with its vibrant cultural and entertainment scene and its European flair, is one of the top travel destinations in Canada. Summer, in particular, is an amazing time in Montreal because the city hosts one festival after another. In July of 2006 I spent four days in Montreal and got to taste the pulsating energy of this metropolis first hand. Several different tours really helped me to get to know the city and its background: I started with a guided driving tour the first day, went on an architectural walking tour of Old Montreal and even sampled a ghost tour in Old Montreal that made history come to life.
I had a chance to explore many of Montreal’s signature sights: the Olympic Stadium, the Botanical Garden, the Insectarium, the Jean Talon Market, the Marché Atwater and many more. As an avid bicyclist I was excited to go on two bicycle tours: one through the leafy neighbourhoods of Montreal’s Plateau area, and one along the historic Lachine Canal. Along the way I savoured delicious food at various Montreal restaurants, including Nuances in the Casino de Montréal. And I got a chance to see Montreal’s talent for celebrations during the Canada Day festivities and the Montreal Jazz Festival.
