San Diego 2008
The long and often harsh winters of Canada definitely make you want to get away to warmer climes, and southern California is an ideal place to flee the winter. In December of 2008 we spent a week in the San Diego area where we stayed north of the city which also gave me a chance to visit places like Del Mar, Solana Beach, Carlsbad, Oceanside and the scenic town of Laguna Beach.
In San Diego I had a chance to visit some of my favourite places which include Point Loma, Mission Beach, La Jolla, Balboa Park and the scenic peninsula of Coronado. I also visited Old Town, the historic centre of San Diego and took the street car through downtown. We spent a couple of days in the city where we stayed at the historic Sofia Hotel that has been transformed into a chic boutique hotel in recent years. A walk along San Diego’s waterfront gave me a chance to see Seaport Village, the USS Midway – an aircraft carrier that is now a museum, the National Salute – a tribute to Bob Hope, and cruise ship terminals that welcome hundreds of cruise ships every year.
