San Francisco 2008
San Francisco is a dream destination for so many of us. After an all too brief visit to the City by the Bay in 2001, I had another chance to explore this exciting metropolis in February of 2008. During five days in the city I had the opportunity to sample an entire smorgasbord of what this city has to offer. My explorations included a culinary tour through North Beach – the city’s colourful Italian neighbourhood, a Victorian Homes Walking Tour through the beautiful Pacific Heights district, several biking adventures including a thrilling bicycle ride across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge and an excursion to Alcatraz which enthralled me with its eerie beauty and fascinating history.
An out-of-town excursion was also in store: I got to go on a tour of Muir Woods to admire California’s ancient redwoods before continuing on a wine tasting tour of the Sonoma Valley. In various restaurants I had a chance to sample Northern California’s healthy yet tasty cuisine and explore some exciting night life watching gender illusionists at one of San Francisco’s famous night clubs. Some of the major sites I visited included the Coit Tower and its famous 1930s murals, the hustle and bustle of Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39, and the thrill of hopping on one of the famous cable cars that are part of the world’s last permanently operated cable car system. It’s really hard not to fall in love with San Francisco…
