Susanne October 19, 2010 was my departure day. Since my flight was not leaving until the late afternoon I still had time for some explorations. After a nice breakfast inside the Shops at Columbus Circle, I took a subway and a bus to go northeast for a visit to the world-renowned Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Again, I used my Explorer Pass to get express access to this premiere institution without having to wait in line.
One of the last creations of famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Guggenheim has been attracting art lovers since 1959. With its rounded shape and circular interior walkways it is perfectly designed for displaying art. During my visit there was a special exhibition entitled “Chaos and Classicism – Art in France, Italy, and Germany, 1918 to 1936” – a truly fascinating exhibition about art in the interwar years.
After a final stroll through Central Park on a brilliant day I finally picked up my suitcase and made my way by public transit to LaGuardia Airport. My four days in New York City had been filled with tons of fun, lots of learning and many hours of walking and biking through this captivating metropolis and already left me with a long list of things to see next time.
